Jade de Hutton’s Attakwas Experience

Jade de Hutton has done so many Dryland Event Management events in the last six months that she’s practically part of the team. In 2016 she rode her first Fairview Attakwas Extreme MTB Challenge and wrote about the experience for Mountain Bike Magazine, in 2017 she rode her second Atta – with minimal training it must be said. Here’s a photo essay of her journey from Chandelier Game Farm, through the Attakwaskloof, and to the coast at Groot Brakrivier.

Robert Le Brun's bike caddy service at registration. I saw him at the start and then never again. Blitzing.

We came down the treacherous descent on left and now going up that climb in the distance on the right. Not having quite so much fun now.

Fun police have arrived. Can't remember how far this was in but felt broken from about 45km and think this was 60ish...

Luckily George Dimopolous passed me by and volunteered his friend to push my bike up the last 100m of climb #5723. Was officially my bleakest patch and a glimmer of cheer here.

Didn't last long. Found a cramper as I felt like vomiting. All I wanted was to throw my bike in a support car passing by.

This was the best time my ass had with my bike.

Watermelon was amazing - couldn't eat by this stage - sorry to miss out on the spread but this saved me.

Massive thanks to these guys for giving me a lift the last 10km to the finish. I started cheering up here.
