Q & A with Tim Böhme

Tim Böhme crossed the line alongside Karl Platt in 2016 but the victory was awarded to the senior pro in the Team Bulls outfit. That has not diminished Böhme’s passion for the Momentum Health Attakwas Extreme, presented by Biogen, however. And ominously for their rivals every time Team Bulls have sent a pair of riders to the Attakwas they have walked away with a 1-2 finish. Will that be the case in 2018. We spoke to Böhme to find out what keeps him coming back to the Hell of the South.

Atta: What brings you back to the Attakwas year on year to start your racing season?

TB: I like Karl, Karl likes the race an I like to race with Karl! It´s nice to start the season in SA at a tough race like the Attakwas, so you now right from the beginning how good your preparation over the winter has been.

Atta: What is your favourite section of the route?

TB: The climb to the top of the mountain. Two years ago I won the King of the Mountain and in that moment I knew, that it would be a good race for me.

Atta: How do you mentally approach a ultra-endurance event like the Attakwas?

TB: Train hard on long distances, so you can imagine what´s coming.

Atta: What advice would you give someone taking part in the Attakwas for the first time?

TB: Look for yourself especially at the beginning, the race is so long, don´t throw your power out at the first part of the race. You must always have a smile on your face, then you know you have the perfect race speed.
