Q&A with Karl Platt

2016 Momentum Health Attakwas Extreme, presented by Biogen, champion and mountain biking legend Karl Platt has confirmed that he will be returning for the 2018 #HellOfTheSouth as he builds up form ahead of the Momentum Health Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen, and the Cape Epic. We asked him a few Atta questions and here’s what the smiling German had to say:

Atta: What brings you back to the Attakwas year on year to start your racing season?

KP: Attakwas is a great opportunity to see the mountain bike family after a long break from racing. I love the racing at this event and its a good first test to see how the legs are doing.

Atta: What is your favourite section of the route?

KP: For me definitely the first 70km. After the turning point it gets really hard on you mentality with the long rolling hills mostly into a head-wind. haha….

Atta: How do you mentally approach a ultra-endurance event like the Attakwas?

KP: We are professional riders and know how to handle the pain. Try to pace yourself in the beginning and try to keep something for the last 50km. It only gets very hard if you blow your engine before the finish line.

Atta: What advice would you give someone taking part in the Attakwas for the first time?

KP: Train well and find a good balance between being serious and having fun.
